Perhaps
best known for its wide open spaces, blue skies, clean
air and diverse cultures, New Mexico is also home to
more scientists, doctors and PhDs per capita than
nearly any other state in the nation. The health care
industry is one of the states leading employers.
There are five major medical centers in Albuquerque
alone, including the University of New Mexico Hospital
and Medical School, recognized nationally for its pioneering
curriculum in primary care medicine.
Over
a million and a half people live here in pueblos, on
Indian reservations, in mountain villages, along the
banks of the Rio Grande and in cities know for their
research laboratories, service industries, cultural
diversity and sophisticated entertainment ballet,
opera and symphonies. Santa Fe, one of the oldest cities
in America, and an international center of romance,
charm, diversity cuisine and culture, is only an hour
from Albuquerque.
